While Oconee Christian Academy might be considered a small, private school, we are excited to be able to offer support, finite resources, and/or accommodations to students struggling with mild to moderate disabilities.
A prospective student’s needs are thoroughly reviewed in order to determine if OCA is equipped to provide an environment where the student can be successful. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the student’s particular need(s) and OCA’s ability to assist.
Unlike the public-school system, OCA does not have a special education/resource teacher on staff and is unable to provide special education instruction to our students. However, OCA has a Resource Counselor on staff who works closely with teachers, students/parents, and administration to ensure that accommodations for students with Accommodation plans and ISP's (Individualized Service Plans) are developed and used effectively. The Resource Counselor also serves as a liaison between OCA and the School District of Oconee County (SDOC). Although OCA has a working relationship with the SDOC and tries to obtain services from their special education teacher when possible, the County is not obligated to provide these services to OCA students.
While OCA may be slightly limited in the accommodations that can be offered, in certain circumstances, the following can be provided:
- Alternate test setting (individual or small group testing)
- Extended time for test completion
- Ability to record lectures and/or photograph notes
- Preferential seating
- Audio books
- Small group instruction
- Alternate test formats
- Tutoring through our local school district (when approved by SDOC)
- Occupational, physical, or speech therapy through local school district (when approved by SDOC)
Our faculty members at Oconee Christian Academy are committed and qualified to effectively teach within their area of specialization as all teachers hold 4 year degrees, most are certified in their content area, and many hold master degrees and doctorates.
Oconee Christian Academy has integrated biblical truth in our core curriculum. Our Christian teachers and staff members readily demonstrate a Christian life and view their calling to teach as a ministry to each student. Our teachers are empowered by the Holy Spirit to effectively address the students’ spiritual, academic, emotional and physical needs in the context of their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Within the classroom, our teachers help students to discover how God’s word provides direction, correction, comfort and encouragement in all aspects of life.
Oconee Christian Academy is founded upon conservative, evangelical Protestant Christian principles as manifested in the inerrant Word of God, the Old and New Testament Scriptures. Therefore, Oconee Christian Academy believes the Bible to be the foundation for all matters of life and learning. We hold firmly that God as revealed through Jesus Christ is sovereign and the center of the universe; as such, He must also be the center of our lives and the focus of our every endeavor.
Oconee Christian Academy believes that God speaks to us through His holy scriptures; therefore, we must submit unconditionally to the authority of the Bible, and recognize His scriptures as the exclusive standard for Christian education. In addition:
- We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, infallible Word of God; as such, it is the final authority in all matters of life and faith.
- We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe that God created man in His own image and granted man free will; that man chose to sin against God, leading to physical and spiritual death; that this spiritual death separates man from God; and that all people are born with a sinful nature.
- We believe in both the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, and His numerous miracles.
- We believe that Jesus Christ died a vicarious death as an atonement for our sins, and that all who believe in Him are justified by the blood He shed.
- We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, His ascension into heaven, His seating at the right hand of the Father, and His eventual return to earth where He will rule His Kingdom in power and glory.
- We believe that salvation cannot be earned through any work of our own, but is only available from God through His grace; therefore, salvation can only be achieved by confessing sin, faithfully accepting Jesus Christ as personal Savior, and being reborn and regenerated through the work of the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost: those that are saved unto a resurrection of eternal life, and those that are lost unto a resurrection of eternal damnation.
- We believe that all Christians are unified in spirit through our Lord Jesus Christ.
- We believe that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit enables the Christian to live a Godly life.
Oconee Christian Academy students in grades K-11 annually score well above their national counterparts on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). Additionally, all Oconee Christian Academy upperclassmen are encouraged to take the ACT or the SAT and score higher than the national average on these college entrance tests. All OCA students in grades 8-10 take the Pre-ACT, and all students in grades 8-11 take the PSAT.
Oconee Christian Academy partners with Southern Wesleyan University to offer dual enrollment courses on our campus. Oconee Christian Academy faculty offer Freshman Composition I and II, Introduction to Computer Science and Information Processing, and Fundamentals of Programming on OCA’s campus. Additionally OCA offers a variety of approved dual enrollment online courses. Juniors and seniors can earn a Carnegie unit that counts toward high school graduation while earning college credit for each course successfully completed.
OCA offers Advanced Placement courses in, AP Physics 1 (Algebra Based), AP Music Theory and AP Calculus AB. Students taking AP courses are required to take the AP exam in May and can earn college credit with a score of 3, 4 or 5. We are also proud to offer 12 honors courses.
One hundred percent (100%) of our seniors over the last four years have graduated with a college-prep high school diploma. Ninety-five percent (95%) of our graduates pursue post-secondary education.
At Oconee Christian Academy, we seek to help each of our students develop godly character and a biblical worldview. Oconee Christian Academy strives to teach students to be:
- Hardworking
- Dependable
- Positive
- Self-motivated
- Team Oriented
- Organized
- Effective Communicators
- Flexible
- Confident
- Work Well Under Pressure
Throughout their career at Oconee Christian Academy, students are given many opportunities to achieve these goals and traits.
Each student is encouraged to participate in various outreach projects within their church and community, beginning during elementary years and continuing throughout their high school experience. Many opportunities are made available for mission work in the local community, including serving at retirement centers, food banks, hospitals, and churches. Classes and school groups often identify needs within the community and then plan and carry out those needed services while honoring Christ through their efforts.
Chapel services are held each week for both lower and upper school students providing Biblical messages of faith and challenge. Many of these services begin with student-led worship through prayer and music. The main message is presented most often by guest speakers. Once a month our BOOST Team leads chapel and occasionally a staff member will speak.

The incorporation of technology across curriculum supports the mission and vision of OCA that encourages students to develop God’s unique purpose in their lives by challenging them to become honorable and productive citizens in a changing global society.
