Educational Program

The goal of Oconee Christian Academy is to offer each student a quality college preparatory education in a family environment with a Christian foundation that strives to instill in each student a Christian worldview.

Our educational program is based on sound academic training, Biblical discipline and the teaching of the Word of God, which is integrated into every area of life and study. Using the Bible and teachings of Christ as the center of the curriculum, our commitment is to train up our students “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” We count it a privilege to serve the Lord in this loving family environment.

Emphasis is placed on a traditional approach to various subject areas using Christian curriculum whenever possible. Grades are based on class work, tests, projects, homework assignments, and reports.

The following subjects are taught at most grade levels:

  • Bible
  • Language Arts (reading, writing, spelling, grammar)
  • Social Studies
  • Mathematics
  • Science (includes Health and Safety)
  • Physical Education
  • Special Enrichment Classes (Art, Band, Music, Theater/Communications, etc.)
  • Foreign Language
  • Computer

Final decisions as to which curriculum will be used for each subject are made by the faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees. A curriculum committee made up of teachers, parents, and administrators make recommendations concerning some curriculum decisions. A balanced curriculum for the individual grade level can be achieved through a variety of learning materials. The Academy will seek to provide its students with the best education possible in a Christian environment so that they may be thoroughly equipped for life.

Oconee Christian Academy students in grades K-8 annually score well above their national counterparts on the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills). Our 8-11 graders take the PSAT annually, and the 8-10 graders take the Pre-ACT each year as well, with our students typically scoring above the national average. Additionally, all Oconee Christian Academy upper classmen are encouraged to take the ACT (American College Entrance Test) &/or the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) where they usually score higher than the national average on these tests.

Dual Enrollment & AP

Before the start of the 2014-2015 school year Oconee Christian formed a partnership with Southern Wesleyan University to offer dual enrollment courses on our campus. Our own faculty members teach English 101 and 102 to seniors, and Algebra/Trigonometry, Calculus and Quantitative Reasoning to both the junior and senior classes. A student has the opportunity to obtain a Carnegie unit in both English and Science that counts toward high school graduation while earning college credit for each course completed.

In 2017, Oconee Christian Academy offered its first Advanced Placement course, AP Physics 1 (Algebra Based). Juniors and Seniors who take this college level course can take the AP Physics 1 exam in May at Oconee Christian Academy and can earn college credit with a score of 3, 4 or 5.

Ninety-five percent of our graduates have continued on to higher education.

An Individualized Approach to Elementary Education

Oconee Christian Academy ensures elementary students will be well equipped for learning success and provides academic rigor and opportunities for engaging activities and projects. Small class sizes allow teachers to meet students’ individual needs.
